Akagi Transport
From Traveller Wiki - Science-Fiction Adventure in the Far future
Akagi Transport Ltd, LIC operated a fleet of passenger and cargo vessels throughout Zarushagaar, mainly along the X-Boat routes. Its bulk cargo division was particularly large and traditionally hauled a fair percentage of the Imperium's peacetime, military cargos. In addition, Akagi leased corporate couriers, with full crew, to many of Zarushagar's major corporations. Prior to the Rebellion, ATL had begun to expand into the field of cargo brokerage and wholesale speculation.
Homeport for ATL was Siam/Iimii (Zarushagaar ) with facilities at most A and B class starports. A maintenance depot was also located at Toortiered/Wolf (Zarushagaar ).
Akagi formally ceased to exist in late 1119. Disruption of trade sectorwide led to the collapse of the company. Ships from Akagi's fleet have either been sold off or are in the hands of their captains and now operate as free traders.
An interesting footnote in Akagi history involves the story of the Zushi Maru. In 1118, the Common Imperial Transport Zushi Maru was called upon to transport 2000 war refugees from the Wolf subsector to the Oasis subsector. Somewhere along the way, the ship disappeared. A search was made by Akagi but no trace of the ship has ever been found. While it is not uncommon for ships to disappear during wartime, some interesting rumors developed regarding the fate of the Maru. Vengeance Fleet Intelligence believed that the ship was carrying biochemical weapons and was captured by Dulinor's forces. (Many think this rumor was started mainly as a propaganda tool). Loyal Fleet Intelligence is rumored to have thought that the ship carried some advanced naval weapon from Reserach Station Sigma in Oasis subsector. (This rumor ignores the fact that the Maru was travelling in the wrong direction). Akagi stood firm on its assertion that the Zushi Maru's cargo was refugees.
