One hundred years after the start of their industrial revolution, the Anlisleans, a minor non-human race met the environmental crisis that all industrial societies face -- as nearly two billion Anlisleans poisoned their world, a quasi-religious anti-machine philosophy swept the planet. Giving up technology is something all civilizations ponder during their development, but going "back to nature" without reintroducing pre-industrial drudgery and disease is nearly impossible. The Anlisleans are one of the few races that have pulled it off.
