A rich agricultural world located at the intersection of three important trade routes in the Sword Worlds Subsector of the Spinward Marches. Beater has a dense oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere and a tropical climate. This hot and almost soupy atmosphere give rise to rampant life. Beater's life forms tend to straddle the line between "plant" and "animal." Beater is renown for its safaris.
Beater orbits its primary, Gawaine, at a distance of 0.65 AU. Beater has a single moon. The planet's capital city, Kersbog, is located on Tyst Island. Beater's downport is named Hallenport.
Beater was originally named Galatine. Prior to the Fifth Frontier War, Beater was a member of the Sword Worlds Confederation, but in the aftermath of the war it became part of the Imperial Client state known as the Border Worlds Confederation.
In 1116 the capital of the Border Worlds was moved from Sting (Spinward Marches 1525) to Beater.
Beater has a naval base.
