It is unclear when Bersha began attracting Droyne. The earliest records show that outcasts were present here even before the Third Imperium finally wrested the system away from the Vargr at the end of the Campaigns. The few humans that settled this otherwise barren and inhospitable world originally built their settlement as an extension of what they called the "Monastery", the fortress-like domicile the Droyne used before as a place of penitence before they committed suicide. The humans built a small starport, raised a few crops, but most of their economy came from supporting the yearly trickle of Droyne emigrants that made this world their final resting place.

Unlike the ritual death partaken by a Kroyloss in a traditional Droyne community, the Droyne that journeyed to this system were those convicted of crimes or acts of perfidy against their Oytrip, and were exiled here to expunge their honor. For most that meant a cloistered existence in the Monastery, spending several years in normal and psionic contemplation, slowly cleansing themselves of their crimes, and beginning preparations of a psionically induced death. Sophontologists, at least those that knew of this obscure world, were fascinated by the ritual manner these Droyne committed themselves; previously there existed only circumstantial evidence that the Droyne held any kind of religious aspiration or reverence beyond their recognition of Yaskoydray.

After the Irrgh Manifest took the world, the occupying forces curtailed the flow of death seeking Droyne, and the community dwindled. After the Collapse, the flow disappeared entirely, and the subsequent focus of the remnant community has dramatically changed. The remaining Droyne, most of whom were young, have been reproducing, cluthing several new offspring, and their population has stabilized to the current levels. The human community was already quite familiar with Droyne culture, and has completely acculturated in the last six decades. The human ruler is chosen from the population using Droyne Coyns, and who rules absolutely with assistance from an advisory council of elderly humans and Droyne. The Droyne immigration fleets that have visited at Utsbesyult (Deneb 2802) will on occasion call upon Bersha during their inscrutable voyages, and this has enabled the local gene pool for both species to be improved by immigration.
