T5
T5 is version 5 of the Traveller rules.
Marc Miller released a T5 draft as a CDROM in November 2008. He has also stated that he will direct it very closely and not trust others with production so much as before (T4). He has several fresh ideas for the new version:
"Life Pursuits" as a mechanism for gaining skill in a particular field.
Chargen preserves the Traveller lifepath feel, but is about as far from T4 as it is from MT. The system fully accomodates nonhuman characters.
Personal combat derives from T4 (i.e. fast: armor absorbs damage), expanded to include various types of damage.
Materials technology and weapon design is based on FFS2.
Power supplies are more like MT's than CT's or T4's.
Bits of CT and FFS2 are in starship design, which also takes a page from MT and extends down into smallcraft and vehicles. It's easier to build a small starship in T5 than HG, MT, or QSDS, but more involved than Book 2. It's a 3-tier system, with a simple system for smallcraft and small starships, a more involved system for larger starships, and FFS2 able to build components for them both.
The TL design range is similar to MT.
Specific rules are crafted to tap published adventures as resources to be mined for new adventures.
TNE's concept of Maintenance Points is evolved into a way to appraise equipment with playability ratings.
